The NVA, or Vietnam People’s Army (viet. Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam), is an enemy faction in the campaign and multiplayer of Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Call of Duty: Black Ops
In Black Ops there are several missions in which the player fights against the NVA. SOG, The Defector,
Crash Site and Payday. Nevertheless, they are not the main opponents in the game. Most of the time they wear brown uniforms with green helmets or caps that look similar to the officers’ hats from World War II, in multiplayer they also wear neckerchiefs. Every hat or similar piece of equipment has the star on it, which shows their connection to communism. Unlike the Viet Cong thugs, the NVA has a standard uniform because they are considered a real army. Moreover, their techniques in attacking and flanking are much better than those of the Viet Cong. Without a doubt, they are really strong opponents because they mostly attack in large numbers as well.
Weapons
For the most part, the equipment of the NVA is the same as that of the Soviet forces, but they don’t have as much variety in attachments. The Viet Cong are also more inventive.
- AK-47
- RPK
- RPG-7
- SPAS-12
- FN FAL
- Dragunov
- Makarov
- Scorpion
- PPSh-41 (only on the DS)
- PPS-43 (only on the DS)
Vehicles
- T-55
- MiG-17
- BTR-60
- PT-Boat
- Sampan
Multiplayer
In Black Ops multiplayer, the NVA are a playable faction, you play them on the Jungle, Hanoi and Cracked maps.
Info
- Although the NVA uses the AK-47 as their main weapon for most of the time, in The Defector they only use the FN FAL as their rifle.
- Just like the Viet Cong, the NVA seem to speak a mixture of real and broken Vietnamese. Sometimes they just say meaningless nonsense, for example the NVA loudspeaker in The Defector.
- In the campaign, they wear light brown uniforms, but in multiplayer they have Viet Cong outfits on. This is just like in Call of Duty: World at War, where the Wehrmacht wore the actual Waffen SS uniforms in multiplayer.
- Sometimes the NVA don’t say “grenade” in Vietnamese, which means lựu đạn, but grenade in German.
- The NVA and the Viet Cong are the first factions that do not know their own language properly.
- The NVA appears in every mission that takes place in Vietnam except Victor Charlie. In Crash Site, you see them on a hill where you can also shoot them down and their base is attacked with a Hind in Payday.
- A MiG-17 aircraft with the NVA logo can be seen in the first hangar after running down the hill in the Operation 40 mission.
- The multiplayer models with Hardliner and Lightweight are the only ones that also appear in the campaign, for Ghost and Raider they have used the Viet Cong and Bulletproof Vest has been created exclusively for multiplayer.
- When a member of the NVA lies in the last battle and draws his Makarov, sometimes you can’t pick up the weapon after death, it simply disappears.
- When you light an NVA soldier in the campaign, he screams just like the Japanese soldiers did in World at War.
- When you shoot the NVA on the hill in the SOG mission, they fall down in the same style as the soldiers from Call of Duty and 2, plus their graphics are extremely poorly designed.
- The hardliner model from the multiplayer looks like the VC Bookie, the two share a pair of eyes and the mustache.
- Takeo’s hand model in Survival is modeled after a Ghost user from multiplayer.
- The only time the NVA appears in Crash Site is on a boat, which you can tell by the Vietnam flag. This is best seen in the final battle as you make your way up the river in this mission.
- On the GKNOVA6 website, you can see some dead zombies that look a lot like Vietnamese soldiers. One of them also looks like a civilian from the mission The Defector. He is located at the bottom right of the screen.
- The NVA and the Viet Cong are clearly the successors of the Imperial Japanese Army, because they have a lot in common. They come from Asia, prefer to go at the enemy with a suicide attack, they fight against Americans in a tropical environment, fight in large numbers and love hidden and unexpected attacks.
- The NVA and the SOG are the only factions you don’t play in any DLC pack.
- The NVA is the only faction on the DS version of Black Ops that you can take out completely.
- In The Defector, the NVA’s loudspeaker not only says a lot of meaningless nonsense, but also the wrong name of Vietnam. He says “People’s Republic of Vietnam” when it’s actually the “Democratic Republic of Vietnam”.
Call of Duty
The Call of Duty series has existed since 2003 and in addition to various spin-offs, including for the handheld systems Nintendo DS and Sony PSP, 14 major titles of the series have now been released. Ever since the first part of the series, great emphasis has been placed on the online multiplayer mode in addition to the single-player campaign, which is also reflected in the development of the shooter series. Since the first Call of Duty, World at War, which was developed exclusively by Treyarch, each part also included cooperative challenges that you could play together with friends. The latest installment, Call of Duty: World War II, also features an extended multiplayer mode that puts you and your friends in the combat zones and famous battles of World War II. Using the divisions, you’ll be able to choose between the deadly sniper and the brute armored division and support your comrades in battle. In addition, World War II also has a zombie mode “Nazi Zombies”, as in its predecessor Call of Duty: Black Ops. Face the monsters of the Third Reich and win glory and honor.
