In this battle, the 80th additionally received support from Baker Company. Right at the beginning of the battle, the 80th ran into problems and was on the verge of a retreat. Sergeant Mason, however, pulls his squad under a bridge and then across an open field to avoid the MG42 gunners. With the help of Baker’s tanks, they are then able to take the marketplace in the center of town. With the capture of Ettelbrück, the 80th Infantry Division gets another whole cache of from the Germans.

Braunnau on the Inn

On February 7, 1945, the 80th gets the order to destroy the rockets in the center of town. At 7:00 a.m., the tanks of the 80th Infantry Division roll across the bridge into Braunnau, Austria. Then, in the middle of the bridge, a German bomber flies over the tanks and destroys them. Now the 80th had no tank support and had to march on foot through Braunnau. They fight their way through the barricade in front of them and then come to a house heavily guarded by German soldiers. With the help of the MG42 they can then advance and make their way to the bunker. In front of the bunker the 80th then gets air support and can thus advance more easily through the bunker to the rockets. At the halfway point the soldiers hear the first rocket launch and have to hurry even more to catch the second one. Just before the launch of the second rocket, a soldier of the 80th Infantry Division managed to attach an explosive device to the rocket and destroy it.
