“Arcane” ends with a mega cliffhanger. Fortunately, a second – Season is already confirmed. And even though only three characters are officially returning so far, there are already some other clues as to how things might continue in – Season 2.
“Arcane” is characterized by seemingly insoluble conflicts between different parties: lower city against upper city, enforcers against rogue gangs, sister against sister. In the finale of the first – Season on Netflix, it all comes down to a conflict between Vi and Silco over the soul of Powder aka Jinx.
When Silco reaches for a gun, Jinx does instinctively choose her sister Vi and kills Silco, but still, this final conflict of the series goes to the gangster boss, so to speak: Powder becomes Jinx for goodwhich is visually symbolized by the young woman sitting down on the correspondingly labeled chair.
Since Jinx has managed to weaponize the arcane crystals developed by Jayce and Viktor, this new, finally unpredictable version of the character poses a great threat, as the next scene also impressively shows:
Using the shark-look rocket launcher – taken directly from the video game template “League of Legends” – Jinx shoots at the council meeting in Piltover, where it has just been decided to give the Undercity back its independence and make it Zhaun again. And just as the rocket hits, the series is over.
Mega cliffhanger before – Season 2
This almost certainly doesn’t mean that all seven members of the council will die and be absent from the already announced second – Season , on the contrary: For two characters we are even very sure that they will survive, namely Jayce and Mel.
Jayce, like Vi, Jinx and Caitlyn, is a playable character from the video game. And as great as “Arcane” is and as exciting, refreshing and differently staged the series is: we’re pretty sure that no character from the games will be killed off in the series. Especially since “Arcane” also functions as a kind of prequel.
Mel, on the other hand, is one of the most important female characters in the series, and unlike the other council members, she won’t be killed off easily either. In addition: Just before Jinx’s missile hits, the metal parts on Mel’s neck and back glow gold – possibly some kind of warning function, maybe even a protection (spell)?
Also, in these final moments of the first – Season , we see two other characters from the original, Heimerdinger and Ekko, once again, which is certainly no coincidence. The two should continue to play an important role and work together to create a better life for the people of Zhaun.
And then there’s Sevika, who was defeated by Vi but is still alive and then has to act without Silco for the first time in the second – Season – also an exciting development for the character.
Officially confirmed so far, however, is only the return of three characters or their spokeswomen: Hailee Steinfeld (Vi), Ella Purnell (Jinx) and Katie Leung (Caitlyn). And as the first teaser for – Season 2 shows, the new episodes will feature a tangible conflict between the three women:
When is “Arcane” – Season 2 coming?
Since the production of animated series is usually faster than live action series, Arcane” – Season 2 could come to Netflix as early as fall/winter 2022. However, we also know that video game developer Riot Games and animation studio Fortiche are thinking much further ahead.
In the coming years, we can expect more series and maybe even live-action movies about characters, events and stories in the world of Runeterra. It’s quite possible that the second – Season will be delayed a bit in order to get these plans rolling…
