Arcane is a huge success on Netflix! More LoL series to follow

The first six of the planned nine episodes of – Season 1 have already been released and it is already clear: The anime Arcance is a huge success on . Such a huge success that those responsible at Games are now thinking about further series in the universe.

We had reported about it a few days ago, how huge the fan base of the universe is. 180 million players are said to play of Legends, Legends of Runeterra, or every month. It is therefore not surprising that the freshly launched anime series which is also set in the Runeterra universe, attracted a lot of viewers on Netflix.

After the release of the first three episodes, Arcane debuted at No. 1 in the top 10 most watched movies and series in 30 countries. In the meantime, six episodes have been released and it is good enough for 8th place in Germany. The last trio of episodes is scheduled to follow on November 20.

Arcane not only shines with its impressive visuals, but also does a great job of introducing the fascinating Runeterra universe. So you can watch the series even if you’ve never played League of Legends and the like. The story around Vi and Powder is grippingly told so far. And don’t worry: The series is darker than the colorful MOBA. And since topics like trauma, discrimination, poverty and violence are on the table, the adaptation is clearly aimed at an adult audience.

And those in charge at are looking to build on that quality and their first Netflix hit. Speaking to the LA Times, Riot’s president of entertainment, Shauna Spenley, explained that they want to significantly expand the LoL universe on the small and big screens (via Dexerto). Not only are more anime series to follow, but also live-action movies and, at some point, their own “Runeterra Cinematic Universe” that takes the “Marvel Cinematic Universe” as a model.

Shauna Spenley, at least, is certain: “I don’t think Hollywood realizes how extensive all of this is. In my view, we now have a huge opportunity to build fantastic, organic stories in the world of Runeterra, upon which we’ll gradually build a brand that will an entire generation.”
