Apex Legends: The Old Way Patch Notes

Respawn Entertainment’s Battle Royale was about to get a little boring. But earlier this week came the new The Old Ways with skins, challenges, duos and more.

is steadily approaching the end of – Season 4, but it’s still about a month away. The game kicked off the second split of its ranked – Season , sending players from the World’s Edge map to Kings Canyon in competitive mode. The latest event, The Old Ways, which revolved around Bloodhound, was also combined with a Town Takeover for the very same. So let’s take a look at the patch notes that go along with The Old Ways.

Map Rotations and Duos are here to stay
With the current patch, maps will rotate in casual between World’s Edge, Kings Canyon – Season 2, and Kings Canyon After Dark. The reason for the rotation is that waiting times could become too long if each player can choose their own favorite map. Map rotations will remain as a permanent part of the game.

According to Respawn, every time they added Duos as a temporary mode, it had a positive effect on the community with shorter wait times and better team play. The same can’t be said for solos, as most Legends are designed to work as a team.

Balance changes
General
Kings Canyon and Kings Canyon After Dark – Increase the total amount of loot that spawns on the map.
After some complaints from players that Kings Canyon didn’t have nearly as much loot as World’s Edge, we can already see that Respawn has taken action.

Evo Shields

Reduced damage required for progression.
Damage requirement for Blue Shield reduced from 100 to 75.
Damage requirement for Purple Shield reduced from 300 to 150.
Damage requirement for Red Shield reduced from 500 to 400.

Anyone who has played since Evo Shields were added permanently will notice a downward trend in the item’s popularity. Almost no one uses them because it’s too much of a hassle to level them up.

G7 Scout

Reduces headshot scaling from 2.0 to 1.75.
Reduced leg shot scaling from 0.9 to 0.75.
Slightly reduced bullet velocity.
L-STAR

L-STAR resets its recoil pattern much faster to avoid horizontal recoil feeling like it’s going in an unpredictable direction while firing.
Shortened time to overheat 2.4 to 2.2 (25 rounds to 23 rounds).
Increased headshot damage multiplier from 2.05 to 3.0. Enemies should now always be taken down with a headshot, even if they are a buffed character with a level 3 helmet and a full Evo shield.
Kraber

Sniper Ammo

Reduces ammo per shot from 10 -> 8
Reduces stack size from 20 -> 16
Limb hits on Low Profile Legends now do as much damage as body hits.
Low Profile

The G7 Scout takes a hefty nerf and does significantly less damage, likely making it as bad as the Mozambique soon. The L-Star’s nerf feels fair, as it could take an opponent from 100% to 0 without overheating. Respawn seems to target snipers and discourage camping by reducing ammo pickup and stack size. Kraber, on the other hand, will now always kill instantly if you land a headshot.

Legends
Revenant

Player feedback that Revenant didn’t feel usable enough was loud and clear, and game data showed the same. The goal is to bring its effectiveness up to the level of other Legends.

Silence

Increased duration of status effect from 10s to 20s.
Silence now disables Gibraltar’s Gun Shield.
Increased the duration of the effect area from 5s to 10s.
Silence now has 2 charges.
Death Totem

Characters are now respawned with 50 health (or the health they had when activated if lower) instead of 1.
Removed Low Profile
Revenant is probably one of the least selected legendaries in the game next to Crypto. It seems good in theory, but in reality it offers very little in most situations. Either because it’s a ranged fight or because it lacks an Escape move that doesn’t involve dying with Death Totem.

Lifeline

New secondary passive ability: Lifeline can find secret compartments with more loot in blue containers.
Blue bins will be found randomly as replacements for common bins. These rare bins will have a secondary compartment that only Lifeline can open.
The secondary compartment will always contain a mix of health items, weapon attachments, and knockdown shields.
Portals will now disappear after four seconds if both ends are outside the ring. This change was made to combat players who were exploiting the portal to avoid damage outside the ring.
It looks like the rumors about passive abilities are partially true. For now, Lifeline will be the only legend that has access to the mystic blue containers.

Wraith

Even after numerous nerfs, Wraith is still one of the most popular legendaries. Keep up the good work Respawn, these were already some steps in the right direction. The Old Ways brought more than could be expected. The event will last until April 21, so there’s still plenty of time to dive in for yourself.

What is actually… “Apex Legends?

Within 24 hours, “Apex Legends” became the most-watched game on Twitch – after one week, over 25 million people were already playing it. What is the battle royale shooter about?

What is “Apex Legends” about?

Scenario: In a distant future, bandits, adventurers, and outlaws settle their disputes in a sporting contest to the death. The setting is a fertile, industrially developed valley on the edge of the galaxy.

  • Genre: Battle Royale shooter
  • Game modes: survival battle between a maximum of 20 teams of three.

At its core, “Apex Legends” is a classic battle-royale shooter: up to 60 players land simultaneously in teams of three on the game map called “Kings Canyon” – a densely built-up, fertile valley with many accessible houses, bunkers and towers. Once on the ground, unarmed players must search their surroundings for equipment and ammunition. The goal of the game is to stay alive until the end.

To prevent players from hiding all over the map and waiting to automatically be the last one left, the game area shrinks every few minutes. The longer a round lasts, the smaller the area where survivors can move and hide.

Apex Legends refreshes this now classic game formula with some ideas that are unique to the genre: For example, before starting a round, players select one of eight , each of which has two special abilities and facilitates certain play styles.

Bangalore, for example, is the classic soldier who can conceal her position with smoke grenades and in an artillery strike in an emergency. The heroine Lifeline, on the other hand, can summon a drone to heal teammates – or directly order the delivery of high-value weapons and equipment via aerial drone. This way, all players can find the right hero for their preferred course of action.

How can I play Apex Legends?

Platform: “Apex Legends” is available for PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4.

Price: The battle royale shooter is a “Free to Play” title and can basically be played for free on all platforms.

In-game purchases: “Apex Legends” allows the purchase of cosmetic items and new heroes either by means of in-game currency, which can be earned for free in every round, or with real money. The real-money currency “Apex Coins” can be purchased in five different amounts: The smallest possible amount is 1000 Apex Points for around 9.99 euros, while the largest pack with 10,000 Apex Points content costs 99.99 euros.

The developer emphasizes that it is not possible to buy game advantages with the help of real money: You can only use it to customize the appearance of the heroes, it says, or purchase new heroes.

Age rating: “Apex Legends” does not have a youth rating (USK 18).

Which technical terms should you know?

Respawn Beacon: If a player is shot down, the team members who are still alive have the opportunity to bring the fallen comrade back into the game: Each eliminated player leaves behind a so-called Respawn Banner, which can be collected by the players of the own team and handed in at one of 28 Respawn Beacons, certain locations on the map. If this succeeds, the fallen player returns to the game.

Jumpmaster: At the beginning of the game, one of the maximum three players of a team always takes on the role of the jumpmaster. He decides when and where his team enters the game area.

Ping: Using the middle mouse button, players can alert their teammates to interesting locations in the game world or enemies. These pings are a valuable tool for communicating quickly and efficiently within the team.
