Anders ‘Anders’ Vejrgang is arguably the world’s greatest FIFA talent. But the Dane already sees himself on a different level – and has some pithy announcements to make.
The anticipation of the community for the first official appearances of the FIFA wunderkind was great, since the end of January ‘Anders’ is now 16 years old and may finally participate in EA competitions. At the age of only 15, the Dane had already set a Weekend League world record and humiliated a world champion
Accordingly, the hype around Vejrgang, who is under contract with RB Leipzig and will soon also make his VBL debut for the Saxons, is gigantic. To see ‘Anders’ was last in the FIFAe Nations Series qualifier for the Danish eNationalteam, he remained unbeaten in his debut.
“Arrogant”, yet pronounced.
In the competitive FIFA scene, one question arises: at what level can ‘Anders’ officially perform? Is he already among the world’s best? His own answer is a clear yes, the Leipzig player goes even further: “I think that I am currently the best FIFA player in the world.”
This statement kicks off the new FIFA TV interview with Vejrgang – one of the rare opportunities to hear the teenager talk about himself. As the interview continues, ‘Anders’ rows back a bit. “Isn’t it stupid to say that?” he responds to the interview’s demand, continuing, “It’s arrogant.”
Vejrgang highlights his consistency
But at the end of just under three minutes, ‘Anders’, bursting with self-confidence, can again be seen and heard: “Yes, I am the best FIFA player in the world.” A statement that, in view of his previous history, will once again meet with massive criticism from the community – but could also polarize appealingly
“What sets me apart from the rest of the players? That there is not much difference between my best and my worst FIFA,” explains Vejrgang his preferences. The prodigy wants to win tournaments and titles immediately, his very big goal: the FIFAe World Cup, of course.
The “expectation to win everything”
‘Anders’ sees the pressure to succeed on the scene primarily weighing on the best players – among whom he counts himself. But: “It’s more the pressure I put on myself that makes me win tournaments.” According to the pithy battle announcements and self-assessments, this pressure is almost immeasurable
“I play with the expectation of winning everything,” Vejrgang continues. “If I didn’t pursue that goal, it wouldn’t make sense for me to play.”
On the additional stress of the official competitions ‘Anders’ is even looking forward. He wants to look back in five years on many tournament victories – and of course the world championship title.
Loud scene echo to expect
An interview with such statements would be unthinkable in traditional soccer; no 16-year-old seriously considers himself the best player in the world. In eFootball, however, the clocks tick differently. The performance peak is reached much earlier, since focus and reaction instead of physicality are in the foreground.
The statements will draw a loud echo, quite a few established FIFA professionals will speak out. The self-proclaimed world’s best has further fueled the discussions about his person and his ability. However, he will have to follow up with great deeds in order not to expose himself to ridicule
