Already sold over 2 million

By bringing forward the 2022 World Cup opening match between Qatar and Ecuador from November 21 to 20, the 2022 World Cup will start one day earlier. This small change in the World Cup schedule, however, has no effect on the plans of the vast majority of fans. And the fact that numerous supporters would travel to Qatar for the first Winter World Cup in history is certain, at the latest with the current information from on the status of ticket sales.

As the world governing body announced after the conclusion of the latest sales phase on August 16, 2.45 million tickets have already been sold for the total of 64 matches between November 20 and December 18. In the sales phase that has now ended, exactly 520,532 tickets crossed the table.

Many orders from major soccer nations

According to FIFA, demand was and still is high, especially in the host country Qatar, which with its short distances also allows several players to visit quite comfortably and sometimes on the same day. Many orders for 2022 World Cup tickets were also received from the wider Gulf region, specifically Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, as well as from traditional and major soccer nations such as England, France, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Wales and Mexico. It is also clear from the many ticket orders in the USA that soccer fever is on the rise in the host country of the next World Cup in 2026.

According to FIFA, the group matches Cameroon – Brazil, Brazil – Serbia, Costa Rica – Germany and Australia – Denmark, among others, are in particularly high demand. Unsurprisingly, the knockout matches are also in high demand and are all expected to be sold out.

Last sales phase lasts until the end of the World Cup

However, tickets are still available. FIFA also refers interested parties to the next and at the same time last sales phase. The exact starting time will be announced by the world federation at the end of September. This last-minute sales phase will last until the end, i.e. the final of the 2022 World Cup, as any ticket returns will also be sold again in this way. In the last sales phase, ticket bookings will be confirmed directly.

A draw, as was still the case in the first phases when there were more ticket requests than tickets for a match, is no longer planned. At the same time as online sales, the final phase will also see the start of ticket sales on site in Doha, so that fans who have already arrived can still get into the stadium at relatively short notice if they have enough tickets.

FIFA, which strongly advises against purchasing tickets via unauthorized websites and/or providers, also points out that fans need a so-called Hayya card for entry and access to the stadium, which is valid as a fan ID for the entire tournament period and not only replaces a visa, but also grants free use of public transport.
