Blizzard has officially announced Overwatch 2 at Blizzcon. It will be a true sequel that retains the familiar online multiplayer component of Overwatch and also enriches it with new co-op PVE story missions and Hero missions. Players of Overwatch 2 and the original should also get access to the same new heroes and maps. We have compiled all the info and trailers on the announcement.
During the opening ceremony of Blizzcon 2019, Jeff Kaplan officially announced Overwatch 2. It is the official successor to Overwatch and is thus not DLC or a new chapter of the base game. As special features of Overwatch 2, a PvE campaign and repeatable story missions in co-op were presented. However, the well-known 6v6 PvP matches will still be available and will not be eclipsed by the new features.
Overwatch 2: Progress from Overwatch including cosmetics will be taken over
For Overwatch veterans particularly interesting: The progress from the first part will be taken over – so all cosmetic items such as skins and sprays. Players of Overwatch 2 do not have to fear losing their progress in the sequel. In addition, the multiplayer mode will be shared with players of Overwatch 2 and Overwatch. Players of both titles will be able to compete with each other in multiplayer, accessing the same heroes and maps.

Overwatch 2’s new focus on story is especially evident in the story missions. In addition to the cinematics, these are meant to further tell the story. They are PvE co-op missions that you fight in a team of four. Rio de Janeiro was shown as the first PvE map, which confirms previous leaks. Moreover, this mission is already playable at Blizzcon. Another new game mode are the Hero missions. They are supposed to have a high replay value. Players can level up their heroes here and take on ever greater challenges. Thus, there are different talents and players are allowed to customize their abilities. The developers compare these missions with the adventure mode from Diablo 3.
On the PvP side, the new game mode “Push” comes into play, which becomes part of the Overwatch League. Here Omnics push a kind of payload between two fronts. Overwatch 2 will also have new heroes and maps, of course. Toronto, the first Canadian map, and Paris were presented as examples. Echo and Sojourn were confirmed as new heroes. The existing heroes will remain and get a new look.
