According to Microsoft, the Xbox One sold 2x

In a memo to Brazilian regulators regarding its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft for the first time gave more details on the One’s commercial performance. As it says, the PlayStation 4 sold twice as much as the Xbox One, which had a mixed start.

PS4: Sold twice as much as the Xbox One, according to Microsoft

Regulators in Brazil are also dealing in these weeks with the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, which was announced at the beginning of the year.

To allay fears that the acquisition could negatively impact fair competition, Microsoft pointed to the PlayStation 4’s dominance in the last generation of consoles in a recent memo to Brazilian regulators. As Sony recently announced, since its launch in 2013, the PlayStation 4 sold worldwide just under 117.2 million units.

Microsoft, on the other hand, quickly started to stop giving concrete hardware sales figures after the Xbox One’s mixed launch. A strategy that the Redmond company has stuck to until today.

Xbox One apparently sold more than 50 million units

However, to emphasize Sony’s dominance in the last console generation, Microsoft pointed out to Brazilian authorities that the PlayStation 4 sold “twice as many units as the Xbox One” on the bottom line. This suggests that the Xbox One found between 50 and 60 million buyers worldwide. Unfortunately, Microsoft did not mention any tangible figures in the announcement.

While other publishers such as Ubisoft or Bandai Namco Entertainment indicated to Brazilian regulators that the nearly $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft does not worry them, Sony Interactive Entertainment executives admitted that internally, especially a possible exclusivity of the attractive “Call of Duty” series is causing headaches, as it is an impossibility, at least in the short term, to compensate for this loss.

Further messages on the subject:

Microsoft, in turn, recently reiterated that the company has no interest in making the “Call of Duty” series exclusive to the Xbox ecosystem in the future. As it said in a recent statement, such a move would be simply not profitable.
