Original article:
“EA Sports Football Club. EA Sports FC. That’s the name of the game,” Jeff Grubb is sure in the 39th edition of his own show “GrubbSnax”. Last Friday, the gaming journalist and insider stressed that at the current moment everything points to this name as the main title of EA Sports.
“I saw the trademark names for it at the beginning and I thought, okay, this might just be an online game mode. So I’d rather be careful with that for now,” Grubb noted, but then fleshed out, “I asked about that: that’s the name of the game at this point. I can confirm that.” Grubb added that more will be heard about this soon in the near future.
In fact, developer and publisher Electronic Arts has filed a patent for the naming rights. In October last year, both patent institutions “Intellectual Property Office” in the UK and in the European “EUIPO” respectively registered the name “EA Sports FC”. The processing process took several months, but now the name is fully registered with both platforms. However, there is no official confirmation of this name for the soccer simulation.
Electronic Arts is said to have had extensive discussions with FIFA about the naming rights. However, the new license requirement of the soccer world federation is too expensive for the US-American software giant. The sum is said to be in the billions and cost significantly more than the previous naming rights. The joint licensing agreement between EA and FIFA expires on December 31, 2022. FIFA has also announced it is considering new options for future licensees and soccer simulations. However, according to speculation and insiders, FIFA 23 will be released as a title this year.
