The British Twitch streamer SVB is considered an excellent player in Overwatch and has earned a good reputation in the community of Blizzard’s shooter. But an Internet troll now wanted to destroy this reputation. He claimed that the streamer had demanded nude pictures of underage girls. The streamer says that people on the net immediately became outraged at him, even though the accusations were completely made up.
Where is the information from? Overwatch streamer SVB explains in a YouTube video the difficult situation he was in for a few hours in the last few days. The video is called “An internet prank almost ruined my life. (via youtube)”
Troll pretends to be a 17-year-old girl
These were the accusations: The streamer says a Twitter account with the name “Niaplaysow” confronted him with violent allegations on Thursday, August 11. The Twitter account posed as a black 17-year-old girl. The account accused SVB of:
- “grooming” underage girls, that is, seeking contact with them in order to later seduce them into sexual acts
- Asking underage girls for nude pictures
- She claimed he demanded these pictures from her
To give more weight to these accusations, the troll faked screenshots of Discord messages.
These were the reactions: The streamer says many people have tried to “cancels” him, even though he detests the word.
A lot of people immediately believed the accusations. They called me a pedophile and called me things that I don’t even want to repeat.
Troll says: He just wanted to show how easy it is to “cancel” someone
This is how the situation dissolved: Just a few hours after this shitstorm, an account posted admitting that it was behind the accusations:
Well played to all. It was just a fake. I’m Nia. I just wanted to prove how easy it is to can someone and how embarrassing the community is. Thanks for all the nice comments.
Streamer definitely doesn’t want credibility of real women undermined
SVB says that: Dem is extremely uncomfortable with the situation. Above all, he wants to make it clear that his case should not now be used as an example to dismiss every such accusation as false:
I want to make one thing clear: Please do not use what happened to me as an excuse to undermine or cast doubt on the credibility of real victims of grooming or sexual assault. I certainly don’t want that to be my legacy.
He says: Normally, real women would almost never tell the untruth about such things. Because it is difficult for them to dare to go public with such accusations.
But in his case it was not a real woman, but a fake account. But what saddened SVB was that no one really bothered to question whether the accusations came from a fake account or not.
