A kitten item breaks the hatred of players – eSportsNews eSports FIFA

Actually, the Ultimate Team cosmetics in 22’s store have a hard time with players. But a current set seems to be the golden exception to the rule.

The problem with FUT cosmetics

Cosmetics like stadium customizations, funky club crests or wacky kits have been part of Ultimate Team for some time now. You got them in the past mainly by completing objectives, or from corresponding packs. They didn’t bother the players much, and you can still get many items “on the side”.

But in FIFA 21 EA undertook the experiment to put such cosmetics also directly in the FUT store – and that at compared to player cards peppered prices. Even then the whole thing was not well received by many fans.

In FIFA 22 the cosmetics in the store have been established a bit, but still players have their difficulties with it. When a bundle went live for a whole 135,000 coins in October 2021, the anger was great – not only the price, but also the seemingly arbitrary, inappropriate theme of the bundle was harshly criticized.

In general, the mood around store cosmetics in FUT is rarely positive. However, one Cosmetic set is currently causing an unusually good mood in the community. And this is the one:

FIFA 22 Emperor Puff

Fans celebrate “Emperor Puff” in FIFA 22 – But why?

What is this set?

If you’re in the FUT store right now, you’ll find the “Emperor Puff” items. A set of four items, each featuring a giant white kitten with a Roman Emperor look:

  • There is a giant cat palace that fans can hold aloft in the stadium.
  • The ruler cat can be chosen as the club crest.
  • The customizable stadium can be given the Emperor Puff theme.
  • And the giant cat itself is also available again as a choreo. You can hang it in front of the cat palace.

In short: You can fill your own stadium so full of cat pictures that your opponents won’t be able to hear or see.

As a total price, the set of four items costs 45,000 coins, or you pay 15,000 each for the individual items if you don’t want them all. That’s still a lot of coins – but less than the 135,000 coins of the then criticized Mirai bundle.

And even if the Emperor Cat has little or nothing to do with soccer, the bundle is very well received in the FIFA subreddit. But that was almost to be expected – because the thing has a bit of history with FIFA fans.

What’s with the cat?

This bundle was obviously not chosen at random – because the white kitten has long been a thing among FIFA players.

  • In FIFA 20 there were already the “Creampuff” cosmetics, which you could earn via a – Season progress – a kind of FIFA Battle Pass.
  • Then in FIFA 21 there was a Halloween variant which was available from a SBC.

Even then, the cat didn’t really make any sense in the FIFA context. But somehow it won the hearts of the community. Perhaps, precisely because it was muddled. And a cat.

This is how the community reacts:

Now the Creampuff cat returns as “Emperor Puff” – only in the store. But instead of hating the new cosmetic in the store, the reactions of the players in the FIFA subreddit go almost completely in the other direction.

Many still think that the item is nonsense – but in this case good nonsense:

  • “It hurts to do this, but I absolutely need this,” writes one user (via reddit).
  • “This is too perfect, I have a Rome themed team and Creampuff is the best. I hardly play FUT anymore but this is a must buy” says user badcollin (via reddit).
  • “I hate stuff like this, but this is really cool,” thinks user “Ces_noix” (via reddit).
  • “I buy this because of the advantage you get when opponents see “the Puff” and fall over” says user “doublewordscore” (via reddit).
  • “I’ll give free wins to anyone who does this” user “swavenation” announces ahead of time (via reddit).

Overall, many players seem to be happy about the return of Creampuff – and are apparently even willing to invest in the cosmetics. But you should still think twice – for 45.000 coins you can get some really good players on the low transfer market in FIFA 22.

At the same time the community is wondering about the next event. Because the new “TOTY WarmUp Series” has been announced for FIFA 22.
