Call of Duty Updates Commitment to Positive Gaming Experience and New Code of Conduct: Read on for a progress report on combating toxic gamers and cheaters!
The ongoing commitment
Combating toxicity requires a round-the-clock effort. Since the last Call of Duty® community update, law enforcement and toxicity teams have continued to make progress, including cleaning up the global player database to remove toxic users.
- 500,000 accounts have been banned so far.
- 300,000 accounts renamed since automatic filtering systems were introduced.
- Additional languages for in-game text-based chat and name creation moderation have been added, bringing the total to 14 languages.
Call of Duty uses new automated technology, in addition to human moderation, to rid text chats and account names of offensive language.
Thanks in part to these efforts, the number of offensive usernames and clan tags reported by our players dropped by more than 55% year-over-year in Call of Duty® in the month of August alone: Warzone™.
Call of Duty is aware that the fight against toxicity is an ongoing task. Titles continue to be monitored, reports submitted by players are addressed, and technology to combat toxic behavior continues to expand.
Call of Duty Values and Code of Conduct
In the latest blog post, Call of Duty introduces a new unified code of conduct for the series. This effort is supported by three core values to promote a positive player experience for all:
1. treat everyone with respect
We do not tolerate bullying or harassment, including derogatory comments based on race, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, culture, beliefs, mental or physical ability, or country of origin.
All members of our community should be treated with dignity and respect.
Communication with others, whether via text or voice chat, must be free of offensive or hurtful language. Hate speech and discriminatory language are offensive and unacceptable, as is harassment and threats to other players.
2. compete with integrity
Competitive integrity is at the core of the Call of Duty experience.
Progress is earned through good, clean gameplay. Cheating and griefing or other threats to fair play will not be tolerated.
You are responsible for how your account is used. The use of cheats, including third-party software, is unacceptable. Taking advantage of bugs or any activity that gives an unfair advantage is considered cheating.
3. stay alert
Together we can make sure the game stays fair and fun for everyone.
To promote an enjoyable gaming experience, use the in-game tools to report incidents or inappropriate behavior that you encounter.
Visit CallofDuty.com/Values to learn more about our new franchise-wide Code of Conduct.
As part of this initiative, players will be asked to acknowledge the new in-game code of conduct starting with the Call of Duty® Open Beta: Modern Warfare® II Open Beta.
We know there is still much work to be done to address toxicity, and we look forward to making progress together as a community.
We thank you.
