League of Legends is making its way to our mobile devices with Google, but why is it such a big deal in the community?

League of Legends is something of an Esports phenomenon. Now that the game is over a decade old, it’s finally deciding to branch out and try new areas of the gaming market. Riot Game’s upcoming FPS Valorant is already taking the industry by storm, the new Legends of Runeterra card game is a hit, and now Riot is targeting the app market with League of Legends Wild Rift.

A decade in the making

In 2010, China showed its absolute dominance in LoL when the professional team Taipei Assassins won the World Championship finals. Esports grew and so did the expectation of fans worldwide that League of Legends would become one of the biggest esports titles in the world.

Riot Games began to provide fans with more content, more updates, and patch notes. Things became more extensive as feedback was taken and built upon to make the game the global success it is today. Time flew by and League of Legends slowly but surely became more and more difficult to play. Typical games can be between 30 – 60 minutes long and some last well over an hour.

League of Legends grew along with its community. 2018 saw a record number of viewers at the World Championship Finals, and slowly but surely questions began to surface about the future of League’s stability, as Riot Games was only known for making League of Legends and nothing else. Little did we know that Riot Games was planning something big, not only with League of Legends, but also with a brand new game: Valorant is well on its way to becoming as popular as League of Legends, and still in beta.

Entering the “Wild Divide

In the video for the 10th anniversary of League of Legends, one thing caught our eye: League of Legends Wild Rift, a League of Legends mobile game. We were skeptical: “How can League of Legends even work on cell phones? That’s ridiculous.”

As we watched, however, curiosity slowly gripped us more and more. The shortened game time in particular caught our eye. Since then, League of Legends Wild Rift has been something we’ve been looking forward to the most. Since the beta is expected very soon, you can also expect the first impressions, thoughts and more from our editorial team.

Why is Wild Rift such a big deal?

League of Legends Wild Rift is especially for people who may not always have the time for a full League of Legends game, but still want to play. Since many friends feel the same way, here’s a chance to recruit old gaming buddies and play a quick game every now and then.

We expect League of Legends Wild Rift to be a massive success on the mobile market when it is released on the Google Play Store and Apple devices at a later date. Therefore, we strongly advise signing up for Wild Rift pre-registration.
