For a long time, it was puzzled whether the long-awaited God of War Ragnarok would actually be released this year for the PS5 and PS4. But since July it is – at least pretty certain – certain: The release of the game is on November 9, 2022.
So a potential blockbuster date is set, and games released in the similar timeframe run the risk of getting lost in the hoopla surrounding Ragnarok. The past – for example, with Red Dead Redemption 2 – has shown that publishers can also sometimes postpone their games to avoid a release near a major title.
No significant postponements so far
For God of War: Ragnarok, however, it looks different so far. Because here there are so far no significant postponements of other games after the announcement of the release date. The release of Forspoken is postponed to 2023, but this decision probably has other reasons. And Starfield’s postponement to next year was announced well before the Ragnarok release was announced, so it has nothing to do with that either.
Accordingly, there are still a few “intrepid” titles coming out around the launch of God of War: Ragnarok. Important: Postponements are of course still not excluded for these games.
Gotham Knights
- Release: October 25
- Systems: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC
- Genre: Action role-playing game
Just under two weeks before Ragnarok, Gotham Knights is released, a title that should mainly put a smile on the faces of the Batman fans among us. However, we don’t take on the role of the Bat himself, but rather the different characters of the Bat-Family: Nightwing, Robin, Batgirl and Red Hood. This works both in single player and in co-op,
If you don’t want to experience the game in co-op with a second person, you can also play Gotham Knights completely in single-player, just like the Arkham parts before it.
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2
- Release: October 28
- Systems: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC
- Genre: Shooter
In 2018, the release of the then CoD was still postponed due to another blockbuster, this year Call of Duty in all likelihood remains steadfast. Modern Warfare 2 continues the reboot of 2019 and focuses on Taskforce 141 around fan favorites like Captain Price, Soap MacTavish and Ghost. The unit carries out missions around the globe in the campaign, and in addition to the story mode, there will once again be an extensive multiplayer mode as well as a SpecOps AI mode, as is typical for CoD.
Those who pre-order the shooter digitally will be able to play Modern Warfare 2’s campaign much earlier, starting on October 20. So you should easily have finished it before Kratos’ adventure.
Bayonetta 3
- Release: October 28
- Systems: Switch
- Genre: Action-Adventure
It’s been almost years since Bayonetta 3 was officially announced, and the release is finally supposed to happen at the end of October. Not much is really known about the third part yet, but the story is supposed to take place in Tokyo and pit witch Bayonetta against mysterious creatures that have appeared in the Shibuya district of the city. In terms of gameplay, Bayonetta 3 will of course be based on the two predecessors, but gameplay mechanics like Witch Time will certainly be fine-tuned and expanded to a certain degree.
Incidentally, the game’s director explained why Bayonetta 3 is Switch-exclusive back in 2018, the reason being gratitude to Nintendo, who stepped in financially to complete the second installment.
Skull and Bones
- Release: November 8
- Systems: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
- Genre: Action
For a long time, it was unclear whether Skull & Bones had been shipwrecked in its now almost five-year development period. But in July it was announced that the open world game with a focus on multiplayer will be released on November 8 and thus in the immediate vicinity of God of War Ragnarok.
In Skull and Bones, we travel through an imaginary sea area in the Indian Ocean, navigate to pirate hideouts and can complete various activities. These include completing missions, searching for treasure, and attacking merchant ships.
Tactics Ogre Reborn
- Release: November 11
- Systems: PS4, PS4, Switch, PC
- Genre: Roleplaying game
Announced just a few weeks ago, Tactics Ogre Reborn is already landing on PlayStation consoles, the Switch, as well as PC on November 11. Reborn is a re-release of the original game, which was released in 2010, and offers an extensive overhaul. For example, the graphics have been improved and there are now also fully dubbed cutscenes.
Linda tells you why Final Fantasy Tactics fans in particular should check out the title in her game review of Tactics Ogre Reborn.
Goat Simulator 3
- Release: November 17
- Systems: PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC
- Genre: Action Simulation
When the crazy goats return to the consoles and PC, Kratos has already been fighting his way through his new adventure for over a week. And the hoofed animals in Goat Simulator 3 will probably be just as destructive as the bear-biting Spartan. Not much more is known about the third part, which is actually only the second, but it is already certain that we can look forward to a rather humorous presentation when watching the first trailer.
Pokémon crimson & purple
- Release: November 18
- Systems: Switch
- Genre: Roleplaying game
Last but not least, the next major Pokémon versions Crimson and Purple will also appear in the God of War Ragnarok haze. The title drops us into the open game world of Paldea, which is based on Spain and Portugal, and where we can freely choose which arena to tackle next, among other things. We can choose between Felori, Krobkel and Kwax as starter Pokémon, and as an alternative to the solo mode, we can also go out with up to three other players in co-op mode and swap Pokémon with each other.
All other important information about Pokémon Crimson and Purple can be found in our large overview hub, and we also have a list of all returnee Pokémon from previous generations for you here.
