Blowing up reinforced walls without a corresponding specialist on the team? That was previously unthinkable in Rainbow Six: Siege. With the new – Season , that’s exactly what will change: Operation Shadow Legacy gives a total of eight attackers an item that can blow up reinforced walls – without Thermite, Hibana, etc. In his new video, R6 expert Coreross clarifies the most important questions about the gadget and reveals a few clever tricks.
Who gets the Hardbreaching Gadget?
A total of eight attackers are to be equipped with the new tool. It should be noted that each operator carries only one explosive charge. The following operators have access:
- Montagne (instead of stun grenades)
- Capitao (instead of stun grenades)
- Fuze (instead of smoke grenades)
- Nokk (instead of explosive charges)
- Finka (instead of explosive charges)
- Ying (instead of explosive charges)
- Lion (instead of Claymore mine)
- Amaru (instead of Claymore mine)
How fast is the gadget in comparison?
Coreross has compared the different hardbreaching tools in the game and comes to the following results (the measured times refer to an explosive charge from ignition to detonation):
- Thermite: 6.5 seconds for one explosive charge
- Hibana: 8.0 seconds per shot (á six pellets)
- Ace: 5/9/13 seconds (per Selma charge)
- Hardbreach charge (new): 9 seconds

Who can counter the gadget?
Coreross tests the various defender gadgets against the new explosive charge for his video and comes to the following conclusions:
Bandit Trick: It is easily possible to place a battery during the ignition process and destroy the charge with it. So if you listen for the sound, you can counter quite easily here.
Kaid: Since the electric claw is a bit slower than Bandit’s batteries, the trick here isn’t quite as easy. With the right timing, however, the blast can be averted here as well.
Mute: As long as a mute jammer is active, the new hardbreach charge will not ignite and remains stuck to the wall inactive. However, as soon as the mute jammer is destroyed, the blasting process starts – no manual ignition is necessary, unlike Thermite!
Is it possible to walk through the hole?
A single one of the new explosive charges doesn’t have enough explosive power to create a hole through which you can climb or even run. However, Youtuber Coreross has figured out a trick to detonate two charges in parallel to create an entrance:
- An attacker kneels in front of the wall
- The second stands immediately behind it
- Both place their load at exactly the same time
- The charges must not touch each other
- How to create an entrance without any hardbreacher
Surprise by hot drop
Since the new Hardbreach Charge does almost no damage to players, you can put it on reinforced hatches and stand right on top of it.
With the blast, you take about 5 points of damage, then fall straight down and can thus Take defenders by surprise – a rather reckless maneuver, though.
What else is going to happen in the next – Season and what e-sportsmen and other R6 pros have to say about the new gadget can be read in our big preview of Rainbow Six: Shadow Legacy.
