There are footballers like Buffon (44), Ibrahimovic (40) and Ronaldo (37) who seemingly will never stop playing soccer. But these players remain the exception, as many players pay tribute to age and end their professional careers this summer or move to leagues that FIFA simply has not licensed.

We show you 5 famous footballers who will be missing in FIFA 23.

Sergio Agüero

This is Sergio “Kun” Agüero: The Argentine striker is best known for his time at Manchester City. There he became a club legend, winning everything except the Champions League. He then moved to FC Barcelona in the Spanish league and signed a contract until 2023.

But he could not fulfill this. The 33-year-old Agüero had to end his career in December 2021 due to heart problems. Thus, his FUT-22 card will remain his last for the time being.

James Rodriguez

This is James Rodriguez: The Colombian had a bright career, which he crowned at Real Madrid by winning two “Champions League” titles. The attacking midfielder then moved to FC Bayern Munich, Everton FC and then al-Rayyan SC in Qatar. However, he was unable to match the performances of his early days.

Now, at the age of 30, the former superstar is aiming for a move to Botafogo in Brazil. And since Brazil’s first league has always been absent from FIFA in recent years, it’s very likely that there won’t be a FUT 23 card of “James”.

Marcel Schmelzer

This is Marcel Schmelzer: In recent years, it has been quiet around the former German international, who played exclusively for Borussia Dortmund as a professional. During his career, he won two German championships with BVB as well as the DFB Cup 3 times.

Now the 34 years old left defender hangs up his shoes and will not be playable in FIFA 23 anymore. But in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team you can still get a real strong End-of-Era of Schmelzer.

Martin Hinteregger

This is Martin Hinteregger: The Austrian center back played for Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, FC Augsburg and most recently Eintracht Frankfurt. His greatest success was undoubtedly the spectacular UEFA Europa League win last – Season .

Now the only 29-year-old ends his professional career completely surprising and will not appear on the pitch as well as in FIFA 23 anymore.

Jermain Defoe

This is Jermain Defoe: The English striker legend enjoyed his most successful time at Tottenham and Sunderland, where he scored and set up numerous goals. Now EA is honoring the 39-year-old’s career end with a strong End of Era card in FUT 22, as he has announced his career end.

In the long run, of course, it’s possible that some of these players will return to FIFA – namely as icon cards in FIFA 23.
