Fortnite team Talon has parted ways with 3 players. Accusations came up that they allegedly cheated in the last tournament, Fortnite Champion Series (FNCS). The winner of the tournament busted them. One player says he is getting death threats, while he is only 13 years old.
Which tournament are we talking about? The Fortnite Champion Series is a lengthy online tournament that is broken down into 12 sub-tournaments:
- There are 6 regions.
- PC players have their own division and everyone else competes in another division.
- Duos play against each other.
The current cheating incident involves the “Consoles/Mobile” division in the “NA West” region, this involves players with controllers or on smartphones on the West Coast of the USA.
The tournament has now recently ended and the winners have been announced. There is, however, an unsightly addendum.
Anyone who cheats is quickly out of Fortnite. The spectators and pros themselves watch out.
“Hey, you guys want to kill us for some easy points?”
These are the players involved: It’s about 2 duos that belong to Team “Talon”, a fledgling e-sports team that has been active in Fortnite since the beginning of March and that has apparently recruited many particularly young players. The players are not shown in person, but appear as avatars in posts on social media and in YouTube videos.
At the end of the competition there was the following situation:
- Players Ruben and Drew were in a semi-successful team
- Player Fayde was on an unsuccessful team with his duo partner
- All 3 players belonged to the Talon organization.
Fayde offered to his clan mates that they could easily farm out their duo and get extra points for the competition. The teams discussed this (“Don’t make it too flashy”), arranged to meet in Salty Springs, and the unsuccessful team did indeed get eliminated.
Winner squeals: console tournament is a joke
How did that come out? The winner of the tournament, Paulix, was in a duo with a member of Talon. He made the collusion public on Twitter with the comment “The console tournament is a joke.”
As a result, some on Twitter got outraged about it. The incident was picked up by a YouTuber.
Twitch bans 19-year-old Fortnite pro for chugging too many energy drinks
That’s why it’s cheating: Such collusion is clearly against Epic Games’ rules. They want fair tournaments in Fortnite, so they see such collusion as cheating.
Teams that were clearly more skilled at cheating and didn’t leave any written evidence were also busted and punished.
Bans for “collusion” have been around in Fortnite for some time: even during the 2019 Fortnite World Championship qualifiers, such issues surfaced. At that time, however, the convicted chatters managed to qualify for the World Cup after the fact. That was a scandal.
This is the reaction: Team Talon has reacted immediately and sent all 3 players involved in the incident out the door. They say that this is not behavior that they support.
Talon stands for principles like “trust”, they have taken all steps to clean up the problems.
They send me death threats and I’m only 13
One of the players, Ruben, has already apologized for the incident. He now feels unjustly put against the wall and in the crosshairs of angry viewers after the YouTube video.
He says, “People are sending me death threats. Yet I’m literally a child. I’m only 13 years old.
Cheater incidents pile up in Fortnite
Fortnite e-sports has been struggling with an integrity problem since it switched to “fully online”. Such “collusion” and “cheating incidents” keep popping up and coming out in the open.
Again and again, it catches especially young players who don’t seem to be quite clear about the consequences of such collusion and rule-breaking.
He convicted himself via Twitch.
Even prominent Twitch streamers publicly violate clear rules and then taken out of circulation for months.
For example, Twitch streamer UnknownxArmy, a “controller god,” was caught cheating in the tournament. He had filmed himself on Twitch reading the Twitch chat to get information he wasn’t supposed to have.
