Patrick Kelly sums it up as follows:

Some of the things we want to do in terms of modes and game world take more time. So, of course, they’ll have to be added later. But we’re thinking about these things on a multi-year basis. And I’ll tell you one thing: we’re doing our best right now to top what we’ve done so far.

Publisher Activision further reiterated its commitment to the brand’s previous strategy. CoD Warzone will remain “the flagship and the heart” (translated from “front and center”) of the CoD universe for many years to come.

The relationship between Raven and Infinity Ward

Infinity Ward is the main developer and shouldered most of the work and responsibility in the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its spin-off Warzone. However, Raven Software was involved from the beginning.

With the integration of 2020’s Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War, Raven then took the helm and became responsible for maintenance and public relations, as noted by the Washington Post with reference to Dave Stohl:

While Infinity Ward has handed over the bulk of Warzone maintenance work to Raven Software for now – whose designers, Stohl says, have worked with Infinity Ward from the beginning of Warzone development, not just after the integration of Black Ops: Cold War – Kelly and Stohl are currently working on details for – Season 6, which will begin in late 2021.

Raven Software is a veteran developer, having co-developed such classics as Hexen and Quake 4 since its founding in 1990. For over ten years, Raven has worked in rotation with three CoD developers, Infinity Ward, Treyarch and Sledgehammer Games.
