Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 will probably also get a third major mode, but it may not appear until 2023 and for free.
Call of Duty is on the offensive: Modern Warfare 2 is coming soon, followed by Warzone 2 at some point, but that’s not all. Current rumors assume that the so-called DMZ mode will be released separately and will be playable for free. This is a PvEvP offshoot that is supposed to work like Hunt: Showdown or the enormously popular Escape from Tarkov on the PC. But it seems we’ll have to wait until 2023 for that.

New rumors: CoD Modern Warfare 2 is supposed to be released this fall and, as usual, will have different multiplayer modes. One of them has been the subject of many rumors for quite some time. This special mode could be called DMZ and work similarly to the currently most successful shooters on the PC, Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown. Their special feature is the mix of PvP and PvE with an extra portion of risk.
When is the new mode coming? We still don’t know. But insider RalphsValve now reports that the mysterious mode has been in development for four years and has been revised several times. If everything works out and Modern Warfare and Warzone 2 are well received, this mode could be released sometime in 2023, maybe even in the first quarter. The highlight: DMZ would then become playable individually and for free.
Open World Mode: So far, it is assumed that this mode is called DMZ. What makes it special is the supposedly elaborate storyline and open world. Both are supposed to more or less directly follow the events from Modern Warfare 2’s single-player campaign and include both PvE and PvP elements. According to the report from What If-Gaming, this DMZ mode could then launch as a beta for now. An announcement will reportedly be made in August.

Warzone 2.0 is currently officially in development, but it doesn’t have an official release date yet. So far, it has only been revealed that it will be launched after the release of Modern Warfare 2. Completely new content is planned and there will be no possibility to transfer the unlocked skins, camos and so on from the first Warzone.
